How to update Nokia Phone Software ? Update Nokia 6300 Device Software

THIS IS A TUTORIAL ON HOW YOU CAN UPDATE YOUR NOKIA PHONE SOFTWARE (NOKIA DEVICE SOFTWARE). THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS POST WAS TESTED WITH A NOKIA SERIES 40 MOBILE. BUT, BY READING THIS ARTICLE, YOU AGREE THAT ANY DAMAGE/S CAUSED BY USE OF INFORMATION PROVIDED HEREIN CANNOT BE CLAIMED FOR || YOU AGREE TO  USE IT UNDER YOUR OWN RISK/S

BEFORE MANUALLY TRYING IT OUT YOURSELF,  PLEASE CHECK YOUR PHONE SOFTWARE VERSION BY PRESSING: *#0000#

The Nokia Mobile Phone Model used in this post is Nokia 6300
Nokia 6300
Nokia 6300
The General specification/s of the Mobile Phone used are as follows:
  • Body: 106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm, 56 cc
  • Memory: External: microSD, up to 2GB, Internal: 7.8 MB
  • Camera: 2 MP, 1600x1200 pixels
  • USB: miniUSB
  • Screen Resolution: 240x320
The Mobile has by default Version 4.20 installed (according to *#0000#). Now, we are going to update it to  newer version.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY POWER / CABLE INTERRUPTION/S AND OR MISTAKE/S DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS CAN RENDER THE MOBILE PHONE UNBOOTABLE / USELESS. SO, TAKING PRECAUTIONS IS VERY IMPORTANT

To update our Nokia Device Software, we will have to download the Nokia OVI Suite Software. Download the Nokia OVI Suite from here. And start the installation procedure.

Nokia OVI Suite Installation - Click Install
 After you click install:
Nokia OVI Suite Installation process

If all goes well, you will see the following window:
Nokia OVI Suite - Successful Installation
Now, start the program, you should see the following window on the screen:

Nokia OVI Suite - main window
Now, you need to connect your Mobile Phone with the Computer. While Bluetooth can also be used, I go for the USB Cable because they are fast and well pretty more reliable.

Nokia OVI Suite - Bluetooth Option
I will use a miniUSB Cable because it can be found easily on the market, it costs less and is more reliable than some Bluetooth signal.

Setting the Correct USB Mode:

Select mode - Nokia Screen
If your options are like mine, you may see the following options:
  • Nokia Mode
  • Printing & media
  • Data Storage
Select NOKIA Mode
In the Mobile Phone, Select the Nokia Mode. Please note that the on-screen options (may) vary depending on the Phone Series / Model. Now, wait for the Operating System to notify you that the Nokia drivers have been successfully installed.

You can just continue unregistered and skip the process but by registering, you get access to Music and Games. This just depends upon your preference:

Click Tools and now Click Software Updates:

After clicking the Software Updates option, you will see the following window:

It is a 25 MB download (for S40 Mobiles) and install process and after a successful installation, you will have the Phone software updated. Just make sure you follow the on-screen suggestions, don't attempt the update if you are unsure about Internet dis/connectivity and power short/cut offs. After the update, the software will be updated  which can be guaranteed from the version check code (*#0000#). As you can see in the picture below, my Nokia Device Firmware has been updated to Version 7.21 from Version 4.20.

    1. The latest version at the time was version 7.21. So it's about 7.21 but it should work if Nokia updated Nokia 6300 Device's firmware to 7.3 too ..

  11. I had nokia suite. I t downloaded the update but can't install it. It says do not disconnect the phone and it will restart several times. But nothing happens after the connection disables for the first time. I tried it with a nokia 5200 and the problem was the same. What can I do?

    1. Hello, sorry for delay, I do not open this account much these days, i am sorry, I don't know anything about Nokia 5200.
The software is provided by Nokia so the installation is/was supposed to go smooth.

      >But nothing happens after the connection disables for the first time

do you mean the cable was disconnected? you're not supposed to disconnect your phone until the process is complete, it will, as the setup says, restart your phone couple of times, but you shouldn't disconnect it yourself.
after upgrade completes, your phone will restart itself (if i remember correctly) and it'll be usable.
